NBA G League Ignite Scouting Report: Sunday Scrimmage

By G League Ignite Staff /November 23, 2020

NBA G League Ignite laced up for their third scrimmage on Sunday, and the team continued to show flashes of brilliance through high-tempo play.

Today's pre-scrimmage practice featured a slew of poster highlights from "the future" including Daishen Nix's continued propensity to finish off a dish with speed to the hoop and Jalen Green's acrobatic slams.

When it came to game time, Nix stayed shifty. He dished perfect passes in mid-air and looked for his teammates in all the right passing situations. He’s clearly stepping more into his pro identity with every scrimmage.

Green's athleticism is almost always on display during any given moment. His pacing and ability to kick it into the next gear carries the potential to change the momentum of an entire game. A pump-fake from the deep corner turning into a one-dribble to one-handed throw down is just one example of this.

Kai Sotto continues to step into the physicality of gameplay. He'll continue working on finding ways to catch it in the low post so he can lean into the basket rather than settling for fadeaways, a direct adjustment from coach Brian Shaw's "hit first" mantra.

Jonathan Kuminga is a spot-up shooter. His confidence, positioning, ball security and decision-making appear pro-ready, as he continually maintains control of both the ball and his body while getting to the basket. Shaw called him the "most physically imposing" of the group thus far.

Isaiah Todd's strength can't be missed, and he throws it down with absolute authority. He'll be tough to block when opposing defenses find themselves between him and a scoring opportunity. When Todd scores in the practice court, it's easy to notice.

"The thing that I've been most proud of is they've been really good teammates to one another," Shaw said. "I'm fortunate to have such a great group of guys, both our young guys and our vets."

The team will take a break for the Thanksgiving holiday before more scrimmage opportunities take place in the coming weeks.
