Motor City Tops Ignite

DETROIT, Feb. 15, 2022 Michael Foster Jr. scored 20 first-half points, but the Motor City Cruise downed NBA G League Ignite, 126-108, Tuesday in Detroit.

Foster’s 20 points in just under 18 minutes highlighted Ignite’s first-half action. He scored six points in the first quarter, and Fanbo Zeng also got off to a strong start with five points on 2-2 shooting. Motor City shot 51.9 percent (14-27) and after the first quarter, Ignite trailed by four points, 36-32.

Foster exploded in the second with 14 points, scoring five of Ignite’s 11 field goals in the by shooting 5-7 from the floor. The rest of Ignite was 6-16, and the Cruise surged ahead to lead 72-58 at the half.

Ignite shot 36.4 percent (8-22) in the third quarter and Motor City’s lead continued to build, with the Cruise shoot 48 percent (12-25). Jaden Hardy heated up in the third with nine points, while the Cruise’s halftime adjustments held Foster scoreless in the stretch.

It was Scoot Henderson’s time to break out in the fourth quarter, shooting 5-7 for 13 points to help Ignite outscore the Cruise, 29-23, but the effort fell short.

Foster finished with his team-high 20 points and 11 rebounds for his 10th double-double of the season, followed by Hardy (19 points) and Henderson (19 points).

Next up, Ignite heads to Cleveland for NBA All-Star 2022 activities. The team is set for the NBA G League Next Gem Game on Sunday against the Cleveland Charge at 2 p.m. from the Wolstein Center and live on NBA TV. Before that, Ignite will officially tip off the weekend festivities with all six of its elite youth players participating in Friday night’s Rising Stars action. MarJon Beauchamp, Dyson Daniels, Hardy and Scoot Henderson will play in the Rising Stars game, which tips off at 9 p.m. ET, while Foster Jr. and Zeng will participate in the evening’s Clorox Clutch Challenge.
