Ignite Falls To Skyhawks In College Park

COLLEGE PARK, Ga., March. 8, 2023 – NBA G League Ignite (9-16) fell to the College Park Skyhawks (13-12), 131-105, on Wednesday night at the Gateway Center Arena in College Park, Ga.

Leonard Miller led Ignite after recording his thirteenth double-double of the season with 18 points and 13 rebounds on 7-of-12 shots from the field. Scoot Henderson and John Jenkins pitched in 17 points apiece, while London Johnson finished with 14 points, three rebounds and two assists in their homecoming. Henderson added seven rebounds and five assists. Eric Mika tallied 16 points, eight rebounds and four assists.

Donovan Williams paced the Skyhawks with a game-high 22 points on 8-of-15 shots from the field. Brandon Williams followed with 20 points, five assists, four steals and three rebounds, while Armoni Brooks finished with 17 points, three rebounds and two assists.

In a battle of runs throughout the first half, the Skyhawks edged out a nine-point lead at the halfway mark. Scoot Henderson found his rhythm early as he poured 13 of his 17 points in the opening quarter on 5-of-7 shots from the field. Ignite built a 13-point lead with four minutes remaining in the frame before The Skyhawks responded using a 29-4 run that carried into the second quarter to take a 10-point advantage. Ignite followed by scoring 10 consecutive points to reclaim the lead halfway through the quarter. Both teams traded buckets for the remainder of the frame until the Skyhawks scored 12 straight points to take a 68-59 lead at the half. The Skyhawks had four players score in double figures in the first half after shooting 55.6 percent from the field and 45.5 percent from behind the arc in that span.

The Skyhawks took their largest lead of 29 points in the second half after a huge third quarter, where they outscored Ignite 34-19 in the frame. Ignite struggled in the frame after shooting 25 percent from the field, including 20 percent from the three-point line. The Skyhawks held its lead throughout the fourth quarter behind Donovan Williams, who pitched in 10 points on 3-of-4, including 2-of-2 from behind the arc to seal the victory. The Skyhawks overpowered Ignite from points inside the paint (66-56) and bench points (54-37) en route to shooting at a 54.7 percent clip from the field and 46.4 percent from the three-point line throughout the duration of the game.
