Ignite Falls Short To Capitanes In Fourth Quarter Rally

HENDERSON, Nev., Jan. 8, 2022 NBA G League Ignite (4-3) fell to the Mexico City Capitanes (5-1), 121-115, on Sunday afternoon at The Dollar Loan Center in Henderson, Nev.

Ignite was led by Scoot Henderson, who had a final stat line of 21 points, seven rebounds and six assists and two steals. Eric Mika and Cameron Young recorded 14 points apiece. Leonard Miller (12 points, five rebounds), Marcus Graves (11 points, six assists and three rebounds) and Shareef O’Neal (11 points) provided a spark off the beach.

The Capitanes were led by Alfonzo McKinnie, who finished with a game-high 28 points and nine rebounds. Gary Clark (21 points, 11 rebounds), Kenneth Faried (16 points, 12 rebounds) and Mason Jones (18 points, 11 assists) each notched a double-double.

After trailing by 25 points heading into the final period, Ignite mounted a massive comeback to cut its deficit to two points with 14 seconds remaining in regulation. Ignite dug in defensively to limit the Capitanes to an 18-point quarter on 41.7 percent shooting from the field and 16.7 percent from the three-point line. Through the first three quarters, the Capitanes shot at 55.1 percent clip from the field while hitting 44 percent of its shots from behind the arc enroute it its largest lead, 29, of the game.

Scoot Henderson and Shareef O’Neal led the charge by scoring 11 and seven points, respectively. As a team, Ignite shot 59.3 percent from the field to outscore the Capitanes 37-18 in the final frame. Mexico City held on by knocking down four consecutive free throws to ice the game.
