Ignite Falls After Stars Erupt For 41 Points In Third Quarter

HENDERSON, Nev., Jan. 26, 2023 NBA G League Ignite (6-8) was defeated by the Salt Lake City Stars (6-8), 116-99, on Thursday at The Dollar Loan Center in Henderson, Nev.

Eric Mika continues to make a massive impact for Ignite after finishing with 22 points, 11 rebounds and four assists on 9-of-11 shots from the field. John Jenkins makes it six-straight 20-point games after pouring in 21 points with four assists, four steals and three rebounds. London Johnson added 14 points, five rebounds and three assists, while Babacar Sane contributed 13 points, nine rebounds and four blocks.

Johnny Juzang erupted for 30 points with eight rebounds and three assists to lead the Stars to victory. Stacy Davis and Christian Vital combined for 39 points off the beach, as Davis finished with 20 points and seven rebounds. Vital followed with 19 points, four rebounds and four assists.

Ignite took control of the game in the first half after taking a 16-point lead in the second quarter behind Eric Mika and John Jenkins, who poured in 12 and 11 points in the half, respectively. As it looked like Ignite would run away with the game, the Stars closed the half on a 9-2 run to close the half trailing 56-47. Ignite shot 50 percent from the field, including 42.9 percent from behind the arc in the second period, to head into halftime with the advantage.

The momentum shifted in the third frame, as the Stars used a 41-point quarter to take a 14-point lead into the final frame. Down by 14 points with a little over nine minutes remaining in the quarter, the Stars closed on a 32-4 run led by Johnny Juzang, who scored 17 of his 30 points in the third quarter. Ignite struggled to produce in the frame after being held to only 18 points. The Stars’ hot shooting continued in the final frame, as it shot 63.2 percent from the field, including 50 percent from the three-point line, to coast to the victory.
