Ignite Earns Second Straight Victory

HENDERSON, Nev., Nov. 18, 2022 NBA G League Ignite (3-4) avenges earlier season loss against the Salt Lake City Stars (2-3) with a near wire-to-wire, 112-107, victory Friday night at The Dollar Loan Center to claim its third win in the last four outings.

Ignite was led by Mojave King and Pooh Jeter, who both tallied 21 points, as King also finished with 3 rebounds, 3 steals, 2 assists and 1 block while Jeter dished out 5 assists and shot 58 percent (7-12) from the field. Babacar Sane had himself a night with a season-high 15 points with 6 rebounds and 2 blocks andfollowed by Aubrey Dawkins with 11 points. Eric Mika recorded his first double-double of the season with 11 points and 10 rebounds with 5 assists.

The Stars would start strong with a 5-0 run in the opening minutes which was countered with a 13-2 run by Ignite to take the lead. Led by Mika, who would score 9 of his 11 points in the first quarter, Ignite jumped out to an early 7-point lead after the first period. Ignite would never relinquish the lead for the remainder of the game after the Stars would only hold the lead for less than four minutes total in the first quarter. Ignite pressured the Stars on the defensive end by holding Salt Lake City to 37 percent from the field and 26 percent from the three-point line in the first half.

Ignite would create some separation after recording 40-point third quarter to take an 18-point lead heading into the fourth period. The Stars would make things interesting after a late run that would cut Ignite’s lead to three points with 40 seconds remaining in regulation. A clutch 15-footer by Jeter would calm the storm to hold on to the victory. Jeter scored 15 of his 21 points in the second half while King also recorded 13 of his 21 points in that span.

The Salt Lake City Stars were led by Paris Bass, who had a team-high 21 points and 9 rebounds, and Ochai Agbaji, who tallied five three-pointers to finish with 18 points.
