Ignite Drops Road Contest To Skyhawks, 100-81

-- Buzelis Nearly Records Triple-Double in the Loss –

COLLEGE PARK, Ga., March 3, 2024 NBA G League Ignite (2-25) fell to College Park Skyhawks (15-10), 100-81, on Sunday at Gateway Center Arena in College Park, Ga.

Gabe York led the way for Ignite after posting 22 points and seven rebounds on 8-of-18 shooting from the field. Matas Buzelis nearly recorded a triple-double with a final stat line of 15 points, 11 rebounds, seven assists and four blocks. Izan Almansa added 14 points, three rebounds and two steals.

Chris Silva paced the Skyhawks with 22 points, eight rebounds, six assists, four steals and two blocks on 8-of-12 shots from the field. Jordan Bowden followed with 18 points and three rebounds, while Robert Baker and AJ Griffin added 15 points apiece.

Ignite edged out an early advantage behind Matas Buzelis, who posted six points, six rebounds, five assists and two blocks in the frame to help Ignite take a three-point lead (24-21) into the second quarter. The Skyhawks managed to reclaim the lead in the second period after outscoring Ignite in the frame by 11 points (26-15) to take a 47-39 lead at the halfway mark. Izan Almansa helped Ignite remain in striking distance after pouring in 12 of his 14 points in the half on 6-of-7 shooting from the field. The Skyhawks pulled away in the third quarter en route to taking an 18-point lead with 3:01 remaining in the frame. Ignite responded by closing the quarter on an 11-2 run to cut its deficit by nine heading into the fourth quarter. Ignite continued to apply pressure early in the fourth to cut the Skyhawks’ lead to five points with 8:09 remaining in regulation. The Skyhawks closed the game on a 21-7 run behind Chris Silva, who recorded 12 points in the period to seal the victory.
