High-Powered Hawks Hand Ignite 129-119 Loss

COLLEGE PARK, Ga., Jan. 21, 2022 NBA G League Ignite rookies Jaden Hardy and Michael Foster Jr. turned in a pair of 20-point games, but it wasn’t enough to stifle the high-powered College Park Skyhawk offense as the Skyhawks handed Ignite a 129-119 loss Friday night.

Hardy and Foster Jr. combined for 49 points, with Hardy finishing just one point shy of his second consecutive 30-point outing with 29 points. He added six rebounds, three assists and a steal. Foster Jr. logged his seventh double-double of the season on 20 points and 12 rebounds, plus five assists and a block. Hometown hero Kevin Murphy, who was raised in Atlanta, scored 19 points, MarJon Beauchamp added 17 and Fanbo Zeng scored a career-high 10 points.

College Park’s 129 points were the most Ignite has given up to an opponent all season, including 30 points on 16 of 21 free throws. Justin Tillman led with 35 points with 11 rebounds, DaQuan Jeffries added 25 points and Cat Barber scored 20 points.`

Ignite kept up with the fast-paced Skyhawks by logging back-to-back 30-point quarters in the first half to score 62 total points, but trailed the Skyhawks at halftime, 67-62, after College Park shot 54.8 percent (23-42). Eleven of College Park’s 23 first-half shots came from Justin Tillman, who poured in 23 points on 11-16 shooting. For Ignite, Beauchamp, Foster Jr. and Hardy all reached double figures by halftime with 10 points apiece, while Murphy led with 13 points.

Ignite held the Skyhawks to 9-22 shooting (40.9 percent) in the third quarter. Foster Jr. propelled his squad to another 30-point quarter with his eight points, and Ignite outscored College Park 32-28 to make it a one-point game, 95-94 in the Skyhawks’ favor, heading into the final 12 minutes of action.

Jeffries scored 17 points in the fourth quarter to help College Park pu ll away from Ignite.
