Ignite Could Not Overcome Injuries to Suffer Third Loss of The Season

El Segundo, Calif., Nov. 7, 2022 G League Ignite, who is shorthanded due to injuries, fell in its first road game of the season Monday night to the South Bay Lakers, 114-103, in El Segundo, Calif.

Ignite, without four players including leading scorer Scoot Henderson, was led by Mojave King, who tallied 17 points, 6 rebounds and 2 assists. Pooh Jeter and Shareef O’Neal stepped up on the offensive end as Jeter scored 14 points, while O’Neal added 13 points.

G League Ignite fell behind early as the South Bay Lakers grew a 20-point lead in the first quarter. Ignite struggled to find its rhythm on the offensive end until late in the first half. In the remaining four minutes, Ignite would go on a 14-2 run to cut its deficit to 12 points at halftime. G League Ignite would remain in striking range until hit with a flagrant foul towards the end of the third quarter that would change the momentum of the game. The South Bay Lakers would go on a 7-0 run to extend its lead to 18 points and to seal the victory.

Javante McCoy poured in 25 points with 10 rebounds and 5 assists for the Lakers, while six others recorded at least 10 points. As a team, the South Bay Lakers shot at a 49.5 clip from the field and 50 percent from behind the arc.
