2023 NBA Draft Ignite Profile: Scoot Henderson

G League Ignite Staff /June 13, 2023

A five-star recruit from the class of 2022, Scoot Henderson was the top point guard and No. 7 overall prospect in the ESPN Top 100 before reclassifying to the class of 2021. He led Kell High School to a runner-up finish in the state championship game in his final season, averaging 32.0 points, 7.0 rebounds, and 6.0 assists in the process. At season’s end, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution named Henderson the Class 6A Player of the Year and first team 6A All-State.

Following his junior season, Henderson finished his high school coursework more than 1.5 years early to join Ignite in 2021. In his first season, Henderson averaged 14.3 points, 4.8 rebounds, 4.2 assists and 1.67 steals in 21 appearances. He ranked second on the team in assists (89) and steals (35), tallying one 30-point game, four 20-point games and two double-doubles. His second year with the team saw him average 17.6 points along with a team-high 6.5 assists per game in 25 appearances. He scored at least 25+ points 12 times, logging three double-doubles and leading the team in scoring eight times.

Given his decision to join Ignite early, Henderson has become arguably the most prepared player heading into the 2023 NBA Draft presented by State Farm. He’s excelled at finishing in the paint, using his combination of quickness and physicality to get downhill and score at the rim. His playmaking has also been a major standout, showcasing some excellent decision-making running the pick-and-roll all season long.

2022-23 Season Averages: 25 GP, 17.6 PTS, 6.6 AST, 5.1 REB, 1.3 STL

Top Performance:

Henderson’s best all-around performance of the season came on Jan. 3 against the Birmingham Squadron. He scored 26 points on 10-of-13 shooting while also logging eight assists, five rebounds, a steal and a block in a 119-116 victory for Ignite. That’s also not to mention his insane poster dunk from that game which was one of the best plays in the entire G League this past year.

Henderson also finished with perhaps the signature moment of his Ignite career on Dec. 27 against the Ontario Clippers, taking a steal with just 4 seconds left to play and finishing a floater in the paint to force OT with a clutch shot in his first game back from an injury.

All-Star Weekend 2023:

It was a busy All-Star Weekend this past season for Henderson. Not only did he take part in Jordan Rising Stars, but he was also the captain of Team Scoot at the G League Next Up Game. He posted 19 points, six assists and four rebounds in 25 minutes during the latter event, while posting four points, two assists, and two steals for Team Jason in Jordan Rising Stars action.
